React projects for your resume, from 53 fresher job listings in India
What is a good React project?
A good React project for a fresher's resume does the work React job listings describe: it calls an API and manages state, in JavaScript or TypeScript. Of 53 React listings Naukri showed freshers in October 2026, 37 named JavaScript, 32 state management and 28 calling APIs; 2 required a project and 48 did not mention one.
What React jobs for freshers in India ask for
React jobs open to freshers in India ask for JavaScript, state management and calling APIs more than anything else: of 53 listings, 37 named JavaScript, 32 state management and 28 calling an API. On 29 October 2026 we read Naukri's search for React jobs at 0 years of experience (Naukri, React, 0 years), which reported 1,083 listings. Of the first 60, we kept 53, dropping 7 repeats of the same company and title, and read each description by hand: 46 jobs and 7 internships, 11 of them titled React Native.
| Named in the description | Listings, of 53 |
|---|---|
| JavaScript | 37 |
| State management (Redux in 29, the Context API in 11) | 32 |
| Calling APIs (REST by name in 21) | 28 |
| HTML and CSS | 22 |
| Git or version control | 18 |
| Responsive design | 18 |
| A testing tool (Jest in 11) | 13 |
| TypeScript (required in 7, a plus in 4) | 11 |
| A backend (Node.js, Django, PHP or ASP.NET) | 8 |
| Next.js or server-side rendering | 4 |
Five of the 53 ask in their own text for more than a fresher, a minimum of one, two or four years, or previous experience as a React developer, though Naukri lists each from 0 years. Forty had been posted three or more weeks before we read them, Naukri notes that 24 descriptions were "aggregated from external source", and 17 share a line of eight or more words, word for word, with another company's listing. Fifty-three listings are a small sample from one job board on one day, and a listing's requirement is not a hiring decision.
React projects for beginners
A first React project for a resume can be built from the parts these fresher listings name most. The two projects below are ours, not projects any listing asked for.
Project 1: a React app on a public API. Pick a public REST API whose data interests you, such as weather, books or public transport, and build a React app that searches it, lists the results and shows one item in detail. Keep the app's state in React's Context API or in Redux, show a loading state and an error state for every request, and make the layout work on a phone as well as a laptop. Of the 53 listings, 37 named JavaScript, 32 state management (Redux in 29, the Context API in 11), 28 calling APIs (REST by name in 21) and 18 responsive design.
Project 2: the same app, typed and tested. Rewrite it in TypeScript, and test its components with Jest and React Testing Library: that the list shows the API's data, and that the error state appears when a request fails. Put it on GitHub with a README that says how to run the app and its tests. TypeScript was named in 11 of the 53 listings, required in 7; a testing tool in 13, Jest in 11 and React Testing Library in 3; Git or version control in 18.
How to start a React project in 2026
Start a new React project the way React's own documentation says: "If you want to build a new app or website with React, we recommend starting with a framework." It names Next.js, React Router and, for native apps, Expo, and it also explains how to build a React app from scratch to learn the basics (React, Creating a React App). On 14 February 2025 the React team deprecated Create React App for new apps, and encouraged existing apps to migrate "to a framework, or to migrate to a build tool like Vite, Parcel, or RSBuild" (React, Sunsetting Create React App).
The React listings for freshers use older words. Of the 53, Webpack is named in 14, Babel in 5 and Vite in none, and Next.js or server-side rendering in 4. Those are the words of the listings' texts, 40 of them posted three or more weeks before we read them, not a count of the tools the companies use. In the Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2026, of the 10,889 respondents to its question on cloud platforms, package managers and build tools, 28.1% had done extensive work in Vite over the past year and 14.7% in Webpack (Stack Overflow, Developer Survey 2026). A new project can follow React's advice and start with Vite or a framework; since 14 of the listings still name Webpack, a line in the README on what the build tool does is worth writing.
Advanced React projects
Advanced React projects add what the job around React needs. One fresher listing makes the first of the two below a requirement; the second is named in three.
Project 3: a full-stack project, deployed. Give the app a backend and a database of its own: users sign in and save what they find, and the backend serves it through a REST API. Deploy it so that it runs at a public address. One internship listing requires exactly this: "Experience building at least one full-stack project with a database and a deployed or demo-ready version." Of the 53 listings, 8 named a backend (Node.js in 5), 6 a database and 5 authentication. Fresher full-stack AI engineer listings ask to see the same kind of web application with a feature built on a large language model, as our guide full-stack AI engineer in India shows.
Project 4: a dashboard. Build a dashboard that loads a larger public dataset, such as city air quality or cricket statistics, filters it and draws charts, and stays fast as the data grows. One listing's work includes "dashboards for pipeline status, validation, and lineage", another lists "developing graphs, charts and dashboards in React.js" as good to have, and a third names "A dashboard or data-visualization project." as a plus. Performance is named in 32 of the 53, mostly in the job's work.
A React Native project
React Native listings ask for Android and iOS apps built with React, and 11 of the 53 listings Naukri returned for React were titled React Native; 12 had mobile work in the description. React's documentation names Expo as the framework for native apps, one that "lets you create universal Android, iOS, and web apps with truly native UIs" (React, Creating a React App).
A React Native project for a resume can be Project 1 built again with Expo: the same API, a sign-in screen and a list, running on a phone. One React Native internship makes such a project a requirement: "Must completed atleast 1 project with React Native". Another React Native listing welcomes "Candidates with academic projects or training projects in React Native".
A React project with AI
Few React listings for freshers ask for AI. Of the 53, 2 named it, both as a plus: one internship lists "Projects that integrate AI/LLM APIs.", and one React Native listing "Exposure to AI chat interfaces".
A React project with AI is a React interface over a large language model or a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) service: a chat or search screen that sends the question to a backend of your own and shows the answer with the passages it came from. What RAG jobs for freshers ask the RAG part to include is in our guide RAG projects for your resume; the React app is the part of that project someone else can open.
What to show with a React project
Most React listings for freshers do not ask for a project. Of the 53, 2 require one, 1 counts projects, 2 list them as a plus, and 48 do not mention the candidate's projects. Both requirements are internships: "Experience building at least one full-stack project with a database and a deployed or demo-ready version.", and "Must completed atleast 1 project with React Native". The pluses are "Academic project or personal experience with React (desired but not required)" in one listing and "Previous internship or project experience with React" in another.
GitHub is named for the candidate's work in 2 listings, and a deployed version in 1. A React project made for these listings is one someone else can open and check: a repository whose README says what the app does, how to run it and its tests, and which tools it uses and why, and a link to the running app. On a resume, name the project by what it does, and use the words the listings use, such as React, TypeScript, Redux or a REST API, where the project really uses them. That last is our suggestion: none of the 53 listings says how to list React on a resume.
Is React still popular in 2026?
React is the second most used web framework in Stack Overflow's 2026 survey of developers. In the Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2026, 41.5% of the 10,281 respondents to its web-frameworks question had done extensive development work in React over the past year, behind Node.js at 46.4%; Vue.js was at 17.2% and Angular at 16.0% (Stack Overflow, Developer Survey 2026). The survey is worldwide, and its respondents choose to take part.
In India, Naukri's search for React jobs at 0 years of experience reported 1,083 listings on 29 October 2026, a count of listings that match the word, not of jobs. React also appears in placement rounds: Accenture's coding assessment for its ASE role can be answered in HTML, CSS, React.js or Vue.js for front end, as our guide placement preparation for B.Tech and MCA students shows.
Where Prokopi Elite fits
Prokopi Elite's curriculum, as its program page lists it, has a module called "Frontend (complete) — HTML/CSS/JS + React", described as "Build React UIs that consume your own APIs", over "4 weeks". The program, its modules and its terms are on the Prokopi Elite page.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good React project?
A good React project for a fresher calls a real API, keeps its state in React's Context API or Redux, and works on a phone as well as a laptop. Of 53 React listings Naukri showed freshers in October 2026, 37 named JavaScript, 32 state management and 28 calling APIs. TypeScript was named in 11 and a testing tool in 13, so a typed, tested version of the same project covers more of what the listings name.
What React projects should a beginner build?
A beginner's first React project can search a public API and show the results, with its state in the Context API or Redux and a loading and an error state for each request. A second can rewrite the same app in TypeScript and add tests with Jest and React Testing Library. In 53 React listings for freshers on Naukri in October 2026, calling APIs was named in 28, TypeScript in 11 and Jest in 11.
Do React jobs for freshers ask for a project?
Most React jobs for freshers in India do not ask for a project. Of 53 React listings on Naukri in October 2026, 2 required one: a full-stack project with a database, deployed or ready to demo, and a React Native project. One more counted projects, 2 listed them as a plus, and 48 did not mention the candidate's projects. None said what a project does for an application.
Is React still popular in 2026?
React is still widely used in 2026. In the Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2026, 41.5% of the 10,281 respondents to its web-frameworks question had done extensive development work in React over the past year, second only to Node.js. The survey is worldwide and its respondents choose to take part. In India, Naukri's search for React jobs at 0 years of experience reported 1,083 listings on 29 October 2026.
