What a full-stack AI engineer does, from 10 fresher job listings in India
What is a full-stack AI engineer?
A full-stack AI engineer builds a web product with AI inside it: the interface, the backend and database, and the AI feature, usually built on a large language model. Of 10 full-stack AI engineer listings for freshers on Naukri in October 2026, 6 named a frontend, 5 a backend and 4 asked for LLM work; none asked for model training.
What full-stack AI engineer jobs in India ask for
Full-stack AI engineer jobs open to freshers in India ask for the parts of an ordinary web product, with an AI feature built in. On 28 October 2026 we read Naukri's searches for full stack AI engineer, full stack AI developer and AI full stack developer jobs at 0 years of experience (full stack AI engineer, full stack AI developer, AI full stack developer), kept every listing whose title names both full stack and AI, and read each description by hand. Ten listings qualified: 4 internships, 1 trainee post and 5 jobs.
| Named in the description | Listings, of 10 |
|---|---|
| A frontend: Next.js, React, Angular, Vue, HTML and CSS, Bootstrap or JavaScript | 6 |
| A backend: Node.js, Django, Flask, PHP and Laravel, or APIs | 5 |
| A database: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, NoSQL or a vector database | 5 |
| Work on large language models: LLM APIs, RAG, agents or prompts | 5 (4 as a requirement) |
| Deployment: Docker, AWS or CI/CD | 6 |
| Python | 5 |
| Data structures or algorithms | 3 |
| Using AI coding tools at work | 4 |
| Training machine learning models | 0 |
Ten listings is a small sample, so these are counts, not shares of a market. Naukri notes that 6 of the 10 descriptions were "aggregated from external source" and that 1 "may have been modified by Naukri.com", and 4 run to 101 words or fewer. The listings show what fresher full-stack AI engineer jobs ask for, not whom they hire.
How rare the full-stack AI engineer title is
The full-stack AI engineer title is rare in fresher listings on Naukri. The search for full stack AI engineer jobs at 0 years reported 103 listings on 28 October 2026. Of the first 100, 6 had a title naming both full stack and AI. Another 71 named AI alone, most often "AI Engineer" (13) and "Artificial Intelligence Engineer" (7), and 22 named neither, 9 of them "Software Developer". Across the three searches we read, 10 distinct listings carried both words. A day earlier, Naukri's search for AI engineer jobs at 0 years had reported 2,110 listings (Naukri, AI engineer, 0 years).
So a fresher who searches for the full-stack AI engineer title mostly finds AI engineer jobs. The same work can be advertised as an AI engineer, software developer or full stack developer job, which is why the description says more than the title. This count is of titles on one job board on one day, not of the work.
What the "AI" in a full-stack AI engineer job is
In these fresher listings, the AI in a full-stack AI engineer job is mostly building on large language models that someone else has trained. Four of the 10 ask for it outright: LLM APIs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agents and prompts. One asks for putting machine learning models into web applications with TensorFlow, PyTorch or scikit-learn.
| The AI in the job | Listings, of 10 |
|---|---|
| Building on large language models: LLM APIs, RAG, agents, prompts | 4 |
| Putting a trained machine learning model into a web app | 1 |
| A good-to-have only | 2 |
| AI coding tools only | 1 |
| No AI in the description | 2 |
The other five carry less AI than their titles suggest. Two list it as a good-to-have: natural language processing models in one, and integrating LLM APIs as "an advantage" in the other. One asks only for "AI-assisted coding tools like Claude Code CLI". Two have no AI in their description at all. A full-stack AI engineer title is not proof that the job builds AI.
Do full-stack AI engineers train models?
None of the 10 fresher full-stack AI engineer listings asks the candidate to train a model. One description says so in as many words: "This is not an AI/ML research role". The one description that names TensorFlow and PyTorch names them for integrating models into a web application.
The guides that rank for the term describe a bigger job. MinIO's skills guide, updated in August 2025, ends by saying a full-stack AI engineer is proficient in MLOps and distributed training and can "design and train models" (MinIO). Appjet's career guide, from September 2026, describes the role as a full-stack engineer's work combined with a machine learning engineer's, model training included, while adding that the engineer is not "expected to invent a new model architecture for every product" (Appjet). Neither guide reads an Indian job listing.
The fresher listings in India sit on the AI engineer side of the split in our guide AI engineer vs ML engineer: the ML engineer trains models on a company's own data, and the AI engineer builds the software around a model someone else trained.
Full-stack AI engineer vs AI engineer
A full-stack AI engineer listing asks for less model building and more web development than an AI engineer listing. On 19 October 2026 we read 44 AI engineer listings open to freshers on Naukri and counted, in each description and its key-skills tags, the words for building models, such as deep learning, PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn and fine-tuning, and the words for JavaScript: JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, React and Next.js. Counted the same way, the 10 full-stack AI listings compare like this.
| Listings that name | AI engineer, 44 listings (19 October) | Full-stack AI engineer, 10 listings (28 October) |
|---|---|---|
| Building models | 24 | 2 |
| JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, React or Next.js | 9 | 5 |
Two readings this small give counts, not rates. But the full-stack AI engineer listings name building models in 2 of 10 against 24 of 44 for AI engineer listings, and JavaScript in 5 of 10 against 9 of 44. The full-stack AI engineer is, in these listings, a web developer who builds on language models, more than a model builder who also writes web code.
Full-stack AI engineer skills, layer by layer
The full-stack AI engineer skills these 10 fresher listings name fall into five layers. The frontend is named in 6: Next.js in two, React or Angular with JavaScript in one, React, Next.js, Vue or Angular with HTML, CSS and JavaScript or TypeScript in one, a MERN stack in one, and Bootstrap with JavaScript in one. The backend is named in 5: Node.js in four, counting the MERN stack, Django or Flask in one, PHP with Laravel in one, and APIs in three.
The database is named in 5: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB or another NoSQL store, and vector databases in the one listing that asks for them. Work on large language models is named in 5: LLM APIs, RAG, agents (one names LangGraph), prompt design, and evaluation tools such as LangSmith and RAGAS in one. Deployment is named in 6: Docker, AWS (EC2, S3 and Lambda in one) and CI/CD.
Under the layers, 5 listings name Python and 3 data structures or algorithms, and 4 expect the engineer to use AI coding tools at work, among them Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT and Copilot. The order to learn these skills in is the subject of our AI engineer roadmap for freshers in India.
What to show for a full-stack AI engineer job
Three of the 10 fresher full-stack AI engineer listings ask to see work, and one makes it a requirement: "at least one LLM-integrated fullstack application or agent you can show us (GitHub or live demo, not a tutorial follow-along)". Another wants a candidate whose "GitHub shows commits, not course projects", and a third counts "A strong GitHub profile or product portfolio" as an advantage. The other seven do not ask for projects, a portfolio or a GitHub profile.
Read together, the listings describe the project they want to see: a web application with a frontend, a backend and a database, and a feature built on a large language model, that someone else can open on GitHub or as a live demo. That is the job these fresher listings describe, built small.
Which degree a full-stack AI engineer job asks for
Two of the 10 fresher full-stack AI engineer descriptions name a degree: "a CS/AI graduate" in one, and a "Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent" in the other. None says a degree is not needed. Naukri's education field reads "UG: Any Graduate" on 8 of the 10 and names a B.Tech or B.E. on the other 2: in any branch on one, and in computer science, computer science and business systems or IT on the other.
Ten listings say little about degrees. Our guide AI engineer qualification in India reads 48 fresher AI engineer listings for the degree each asks for in its own words, with BCA, MCA and JEE.
Are full-stack AI engineers highly paid?
The 10 fresher full-stack AI engineer listings cannot say what the job pays: none states a salary figure in its description, and one mentions only "Fixed Salary plus Incentives on Milestones". For what AI engineers in India report being paid, by experience and by employer, our guide AI engineer vs ML engineer quotes AmbitionBox's averages, read on 18 October 2026.
Where Prokopi Vanguard fits
Prokopi Vanguard is, in the words of Prokopi's own FAQ, "a 10-month, placement-first AI engineering program for B.Tech and MCA students, covering DSA, system design, backend engineering with FastAPI and PostgreSQL, RAG systems and AI agents". Of the layers the full-stack AI engineer listings ask for, those words name the backend, the database and the work on large language models; they do not name a frontend. The program, its modules and its terms are on the Prokopi Vanguard page.
